"Duchess" Deborair Duchess of SnoWeed
Every now and then, you volunteer for something you're not sure about. We did that a few years ago when a whippet owner out in San Diego and I exchanged a few emails about her your whippet bitch who was not getting along with her older whippet male who was the father to this whippet. After a few exchanges of emails and about 6 months, Sarah Seiderman contacted me to let me know that she would take us up on our offer to take Duchess. Duchess came to us from San Diego all the way to Northern Florida in a van which transported Duchess and several other animals from Southern California to the east coast. Duchess had been somewhat of a problem child with Sarah and had nipped at her sire as well as a few roudy children in the neighborhood. When Sarah decided she was leaving California for Spain, she ask if we were willing to take Duchess and we gladly volunteered.
While we took Duchess on as a temporary addition to our home to "try to solve" some issues, we always felt she would ultimately end up in another home as a rescue placement. While we certainly had some problems with Duchess establising her place in our pack, we kept expecting to find the perfect home for her. Duchess was placed into two new homes, and both times ending in her return to us with no fault of her own. While both placements ended in failure, her last return to us made us feel that she was back with us to stay. Oh yes, and I forgot to mention the other time someone took Duchess as a companion to their other whippet but was returned within 10 minutes because they did not feel that their whippet was happy with the new companion sitting in the back seat of the automobile. Anyway, Duchess is back with us and it feels like this time she is here to stay.
Duchess loves to run, and is a "CRAZY MANIAC" when you get her near the coursing field. She gets very excited around the house and literally talks to us when she is ready to get out and run on the farm. It must be said, Duchess ends up with the muzzle on to assure she will not battle with the other bitches in the family when the whippets are released, but it feels as though she has finally found her place in our whippet pack. It would be great if all of our whippets had the enthusiasm that Duchess has when it come to running. Duchess might not be the best in the field, but she certainly loves the chase on the lure and runs her best when she is in the field. As you can see from this photo, not only does Duchess love to run, but she will climb trees if there are squirrels in anywhere around the farm.
