In 1976 I purchased a young bitch I had fallen in love with at the Santa Barbara, California Western Regional American Whippet Club Specialty. She was a lovely white and brindle 8 month old daughter of Ch. Sheridan Marial's Nikita ROM out of Roving Lovely Rita, and was owned by her breeders, Richard Reyonlds and Ken Richardson of Roving Whippets. Roving Roadside Attraction was the epitome of what I wanted for in a Whippet. She was long, houndy, beautiful and a wonderful mover. She was a bitch who would still be competitive today in the ring. Fortune would have it that I was able to acquire "Charlie" a couple of months later. Charlie moved in and lived with me until her demise at the tender age of 18. She easily finished her Championship....winning her final point by going Best of Winners at the AWC Western Regional Specialy in 1977.
In 1978 I leased a bitch from Richard Reyonlds, (Sheridan Miss Tuppence... bred by John Sheldon) . Upon recommendation of Richard I bred this bitch to Ch. Hound Hill Brattleboro CD ROM. From this union came a smallish fawn brindle bitch with a little white trim... Ch Locar's Opel Rose'. Oopel and Charlie became the foundation of Locar.
Charlie was bred to 2 different males, first Kindochalines Cinder.. ..and from this mating came a singleton bitch Ch. Locar's Chanel ROM. Charlie was then bred to Madcap American Express and from this breeding came Ch. Locar's Brittania ROM. Opel was bred to Ch. Morshor Appraxin Ariel and from this breeding came Ch. Locar's Dressed to Kill ROM. Chanel and Brittania were both combined to Dressed to Kill and thus we have the pillars for all of the Locar dogs and the 50 plus Whippet Champions of Locar.
In 1993 I retired from 39 years of teaching the Deaf in California and in 1995 relocated Locar and the dogs to the Northeast corner of Tennessee where we still reside in the foothills of the Smokey Mountains..
