Futurity/Maturity Secretary

AMERICAN WHIPPET CLUB, INC. FUTURITY CONDITIONS.

The Futurity will be sponsored by the AWC and is exclusively for the competition of puppies and juniors between 3 months and 15 months of age.
The Futurity is open to all breeders of purebred AKC registered Whippets in good standing with the American Kennel Club.
Bitches may be nominated at any time between the BREEDING and WHELPING dates.

Only puppies whelped by nominated bitches

AFTER the date of nomination are eligible. The date of the Post Office cancellation stamp on the envelope will determine the date of nomination. A fee of $10.00 shall accompany the nomination of each bitch.

After the bitch is nominated, the LITTER must be nominated on a litter nomination sheet and the fee is $15.00. The LITTER must be nominated before it is 3 mos. old (except the 3-5 mos. class). The Post Office cancellation stamp on the envelope will determine that this nomination has been made prior to the date the litter reaches 3 mos. of age.
After the litter has been nominated and has reached 3 mos. of age, individual puppies may be nominated. The nomination fee for individuals is $9.00. There is no limit as to how many puppies from a litter may be nominated. Individual puppies may be nominated anytime after the litter is 3 mos. old and until the closing date of the Futurity.
FUTURITY CLASSES will be divided according to age and sex as follows:

The WINNERS of each class will compete for BEST IN FUTURITY.

In the event that a change must be made in the show date, then the original date shall be the one used in determining eligibility of nominees. Should the show date be set after the original date, then the age limit shall be increased to take care or the differences in time from the original date to the revised date and the nominees affected shall still be eligible for competition in the Junior Class.
Nominations of bitches, litters, and individual puppies must be on official forms supplied by the Futurity committee and must be ac companied by checks or money orders made payable to the AWC, INC.
Entry fees will be retained in the event a nominated bitch or puppy is found to be ineligible under the above conditions.
The Futurity judge will be chosen by the Futurity committee.
If the breeder of the class winners and the Best in Futurity winner is not present, the money won will be mailed directly to the breeder.
At least 35% of the entry fees will be retained by the Futurity committee for expenses. The remaining entry fees will be divided between the breeders of the class winners and the breeder of the Best In Futurity.

I have had a life-long interest in purebred dogs - and discovered the Whippet in 1965. They primarily came into our house for our Junior Handler, now a veterinarian. But we quickly learned that you can't own just one.

We have been very fortunate in our breeding program because our first male Champion, Bettebrook Benchmark, was the sire, not only of many top winning snow champions and obedience title holders, but also several top Award of Racing Merit dogs as well. We have bred over 40 show champions, obedience title holders and lure coursing champions.

I am pleased to have been a part cf six A.W.C. Educational Seminars and the first A.W.C. National Specialty in Columbus, Ohio in 1987: and Editor of the A.W.C. Newsletter since 1975. I have served on the Board of Directors of the A.W.C. from 1974 to 1983, and 1984 until the present.

I was thrilled to be asked to judge this Futurity and I have been looking forward to it.

WHIPPET FUTURITY

After retaining 35% for Futurity expenses, 35% of the remaining money will be paid to the breeder of the Best in Futurity. The remaining 65% of the entry fees for each class to be divided as follows:

First in each class - 40% Second in each class - 30% Third in each class - 20% Fourth in each class - 10%

Prize money to be awarded to breeders only. If the exhibitor of a winning dog is not the breeder and the breeder is not present, a check will be mailed to the breeder.

All dogs for the 1990 Futurity must have been whelped on or before January 12, 1990. Bitches must be nominated while in whelp. Litter must be nominated before 3 months old and individuals may be nominated anytime after 3 months old and the closing of the Futurity (on March 21, 1990).

FUTURITY TROPHIES

The following prizes are offered by the American Whippet Club, Inc.:

BEST IN FUTURITY

The Ch. Fenwick of Whippoorwill Memorial Trophy, a Pewter Pilsner Trophy offered by Barbara L. Henderson, VMD, in loving memory of Top-Producer Ch. Fenwich of Whippoorwill.

This trophy is established to maintain a lasting record of Futurity winners and will remain in permanent custody of the club. It will be engraved yearly with the name of the dog judges Best in Futurity.

The Best in Futurity winner will retain a Pewter Bowl representing the Memorial Trophy as a memento of the award.

FIRST through FOURTH in each Futurity Class - AWC Charm MATUR I TY CLASSES

All dogs who were entered in the 1989 Futurity, whether shown or not, are eligible (dogs listed in the 1989 Futurity Catalogue). The dogs will be divided by sex only. Judging will be done right after Best In Futurity. All dogs will be judged and then all bitches will be judged.

The winner of the dog class and the winner of the bitch class then will compete for Best in Maturity. The owner of the Best in Maturity will receive the money prize.

Entry must be made on an AKC entry form with the Dog Show Class listed as "Maturity". The entry fee is $10.00 per entry. Entries will close for the Maturity Class on March 28, 1990.

Please Note: In order to have 1990 Futurity Puppies eligible for 1991 Maturity, there is a $10.00 litter eligibility fee due by May 1, 1990.
