Whippet Performance Events

NOVICE A CLASS - The Novice A Class shall be for dogs not less than six months of age that have not won the title C.D. A dog that is owned or co-owned by a person who has previously handled or regularly trained a dog that has won a C.D. title may not be entered in the Novice A Class, nor may a dog be handled in this class by such a person. Each dog in this class must have a different handler who shall be its owner or co-owner or a member of the immediate family of the owner or co-owner, provided that such member has not previously handled or regularly trained a C.D. dog. The same per son must handle the same dog in all exercises. No person may handle more than one dog in the Novice A Class.

NOVICE B CLASS - The Novice B Class shall be for dogs not less than six months of age that have not won the title C.D. Dogs in this class may be handled by the owner or any other person. A person may handle more than one dog in this class, but each dog must have a separate handler for the Long Sit and Long Down exercises when judged in the same group. No dog may be entered in both Novice A and Novice B at any one trial.

OPEN A CLASS - The Open A Class shall be for dogs that have won the C.D. title but have not won the title C.D.X. Obedience judges or persons who have owned, trained or exhibited a dog that has earned an O.T. Ch. may not enter or handle dogs in this class. Each dog must be handed by its owner or by a member of his immediate family. Owners may enter more than one dog in this class but the same person who handled each dog in the first five exercises must handle the same dog in the Long Sit and Long Down exercises. However, if a person handled more than one dog in the first five exercises he must have an additional handler, who must be the owner or a member of his immediate fam ily, for each additional dog, when more than one dog that he has handled in the first five exercises is judged in the same group for the Long Sit and Long Down.

OPEN B CLASS - The Open B Class shall be for dogs that have won the C.D. or C.D.X. A dog may continue to compete in this class after it has won the title U.D. Dogs in this class may be handled by the owner or any other person. Owners may enter more than one dog in this class but the same person who handled each dog in the first five exercises must handle each dog in the Long Sit and Long Down exercises. However, if a person has handled more than one dog in the first five exercises he must have an additional handler for each additional dog, when more than one dog that he has han dled in the first five exercises is judged in the same group for the Long Sit and Long Down. No dogs may be entered in both Open A and Open B Classes at any one trial.

UTILITY A CLASS - The Utility A Class shall be for those dogs that have won the C.D.X. title, but have not won the U.D. title. Obedience Judges or persons who have owned, trained or exhibited a dog that has earned an O.T.Ch. may not enter or handle dogs in this class. Each dog must be handled by its owner or by a member of the owners immediate family. Owners may enter more than one dog in this class.

UTILITY B CLASS - The Utility B Class shall be for dogs that have won the title C.D.X. or U.D. Dogs in this class may be handled by the owner or any other person and owners may enter more than one dog in this class. No dog may be entered in both Utility A and Utility B Classes at any one trial.

A Dark Green Qualifying Ribbon will be given to each dog attaining a Qualifying Score.

PLEASE NOTE: Refund of entry fees for bitches entered in Obedience that come in season after closing date of this show may be obtained by sending a veterinarian's certificate to the Show Superintendent. This certificate must be postmarked before the opening day of the show or given to the Show Superintendent before the start of the show.

Unless otherwise specified, the Challenge trophies are offered for the highest scoring Whippet from the regular Obedience classes. Challenge trophies are offered under the following condi tions: To be won three times by the same owner, not necessarily with the same dog, for outright ownership. Dogs may be owned by the handler or by any other person. Until won permanently, the trophy will remain in the hands of the American Whippet Club, Inc.
