8th ANC NATIONAL TRIATHLON
The AWC Triathlon competition was developed to recognize Whippets who excel in three areas of competition: Conformation, Lure Coursing and Obedience .
The 8 th annual competition is open to all Whippets entered in eligible Conformation, Obedience and Lure Coursing Classes/Stakes at the 2002 AWC National Specialty in Denver, Colorado (including altered and veteran dogs).
To acknowledge the dogs who excel in all 3 areas of competition, there will be 10 placement awards.
Points will be earned based on scores and placements in each of the three areas throughout the week utilizing the following rules and scoring strategy: Triathlon points are based on scores earned in the following three events:
2002 AWC NATIONAL TRIATHLON RULES AND SCORING
Obedience, Lure Coursing and Conformation. Each of the three events will have a possible 100 point base score. The total scores for all three events will be added together, along with any bonus points earned by the dog. At the end of the week, the dog with the highest point total will be declared the 2002 Triathlon Champion.
OBEDIENCE: The base score for the Obedience Event is the total points earned in the Obedience Trial Class divided by 2 ( or 100 points maximum). NOTE: Non-qualifying scores are utilized in calculating the obedience score but do not count toward bonus points.
CONFORMATION: The base score for the Conformation Event is determined by the judge's numeric evaluation of the dog in the Triathlon Conformation Class utilizing the breed standard as 100 points.. The judges score is recorded on the Conformation Score Sheet (100 points maximum).
Dogs do not compete against each other in this class for placements.
LURE COURSING: The base score for the Lure Coursing Event is the total final score awarded by the two judges, divided by 4 (or 100 points maximum).

Biography: Beth Godwin
Beth is owned by two Smiling Dutchmen, better known as Keeshonden or Kees for short. She believes in well-balanced dogs with "Titles at Both Ends" and trains her dogs in Conformation, Obedience and Agility. Each of her dogs has earned a High in Trial at some time in their Obedience careers. Although her oldest dog, Sprite, did not get her breed championship, she did manage to obtain dual Utility titles in both AKC and UKC, as well as multiple Agility titles. Sprite was Beth's first love, and was known officially as: UUD UAGI Canyonfrost Woodland Sprite, UD, NA, CGC, TDI, U. She now resides at the Rainbow Bridge.
Beth's middle "child", Maia, has earned both her breed championship and her Utility Dog titles. Maia was the first dog in Colorado to earn the Agility Championship Excellent title in UKC. Maia also completed both her AKC Masters and Master Jumpers in Agility before retiring to the couch. Maia is better known as: CH. UACHX UCDX Summit's Silver Filigree (Maia), UD, MX, MXJ, CGC, TDI,
Beth's youngest dog is Jasper, aka "Wild Boy", who is a breed champion. He obtained a High in Trial at his first obedience event and went on to earn a Dog World award while competing for his CD. Jasper was the second dog in Colorado to earn the Agility Championship Excellent title in UKC, has his AKC Masters and Masters Jumpers title and is now working on his MACH title in AKC agility. Beth has been training in Obedience for 12 years and Agility for 11. She is an instructor in both Obedience and Agility for everything from puppies to competition level classes. Beth also travels frequently as a judge for UKC Obedience Agility and for AKC agility.
