My original breed was Basset Hounds and I got started with them back in 1966. They were primarily owner-handled under the Kennel name of Cherry Hills Basset
Hounds.
I later went on to have Afghan Hound, Black & Tan Coonhound, Bloodhound, Dachshund, Irish Wolfhound, Norwegian Elkhound, and Border Terrier. At this time I currently own and show Norwegian Elkhounds.
I submitted my first application for judging in 1973 for Basset Hounds and Jr. Showmanship. Currently I am approved to judge all the hound breeds, the Hound Group, Best In Show and Jr. Showmanship.

I was raised in an environment where we always had a variety of pets. Through the years we had rabbits, ducks, chickens, hamsters, birds, even a de-scented skunk, and always dogs. We had purebreds — mostly Boston Terriers but also a Welsh Terrier and a Miniature Poodle along the way — and we had mixed breeds, but from the time I can first remember we always had dogs. So it was no great surprise when my sister and I became interested in show dogs and dog shows. She got her first Saluki in 1971 at the same time I got my first Afghan Hound. In 1973, we got littermate Whippet puppies and the rest, as is said, is history.
Gemini (A Touch Of Tonto) ultimately could not be shown in the conformation ring so while I waited for a puppy that I could show in conformation we worked with obedience training. He gained his Companion Dog title in three straight trials in 1974. In 1975 I purchased a puppy bitch from some friends in Albuquerque. This little girl (Ch. Mystic Nimue, F. Ch.) became my first conformation champion, my first ASFA Field Champion, and my foundation bitch. From her only litter came my first two home bred champions and my first Whippets registered using the Timbre/prefix. I've been very lucky through the years to have garnered some success with a very limited breeding program. My greatest thrill as a breeder being winning Winners Bitch from the Bred By Exhibitor class with one of my girls at the 1995 AWC National.
I applied to the AKC for approval to judge Whippets and Afghan Hounds in 1987 and judged my first show in the Spring of 1988. Since then I've been approved for 14 other hound breeds. Over the years I've enjoyed the opportunity to judge Whippets at both specialty shows and all-breed shows all over this country as well as in Canada and Australia.

As a second generation dog person I have been involved in purebred dogs since childhood. My parents were top professional handlers in Canada for many years and have retired from handling dogs and have moved on to become dog judges. They are also very successful breeders of Shih Tzu and Lakeland Terriers under the kennel name of Wenrick.
I have enjoyed all aspects of the purebred dog game. I was Canada's National Junior Handling Champion on two occasions and represented Canada at the World Championships at Crufts. As a junior I fell in love with Whippets and spent an enjoyable summer with Debbie Butt of Sportingfield fame and obtained my first Whippet from her. As a breeder of Whippets using the prefix "Wenrick", I have had the opportunity to produce many outstanding Champions in Canada, the United States , Brazil and Italy.
Currently I am successfully pursuing a career as a professional dog handler and I am applying to become an AKC licensed handler. I have attended dog shows in many countries and have gained a great deal of knowledge and experience for my "young years".
It is an honor to have been invited to judge at the Top 20 Invitational at this years National and I look forward to having my hands on these exceptional Whippets.

Top Twenty Event
Official Rules and Regulations
Purpose:
The Top Twenty event has been initiated to encourage the exhibition of Whippets in the breed competition. Each event will be part of the AWC National Specialty and will serve a variety of purposes in educating judges, exhibitors, breeders and fanciers and will offer all an opportunity to view the Cream of the Crop competing together in one ring. The competition will also promote discussions of the standard which encourages the exchange of ideas and will provide a showcase for those Whippets with the most outstanding records in breed competition.
Eligibility:
Judges:
1. Three judges with no affiliation to any of the Top Twenty participants will be selected, one from each of the following categories:
A. Breeder —Anestablished Whippet breeder who has been breeding for at least five years or who has produced at least five Champions of Record as published by the AKC Awards Gazette.
B. AKC — Licensed Hound Group Judge –A licensed judge approved to judge the entire hound group.
C. Handler (past or present) — A professional handler meeting the requirements for membership in a Professional Handler's organization (though not necessarily a member). Must have at least five year's experience with Whippets.
2. The names of those selected to judge will be kept confidential until the day of the event.
Scoring:
1. Each judge will individually evaluate each participating Whippet. Each judge receives an official score sheet for each participant. On the official score sheet, each judge will score the participant on conformation to the standard, movement, and overall presentation. These scores are turned into their respective ring steward at the end of each participant evaluation. The ring stewards turn the score sheets over to the Top Twenty chairperson.
2. On the day of the Awards Banquet, the Auditing Committee, consisting of the Top Twenty chairperson and stewards, will tabulate and total the scores for each dog. The Top 5 choices from each judge will be placed in order, l through 5 th, on official scorecards. Scoring will be as follows: 1 st place = 100 points; 2 nd place = 80 points; 3 rd place = 70 points; 4 th place = 60 points; and 5 th place = 50 points.A. The scores for each dog from each of the three judges will be added together and divided by three to determine each dog's average score.
B. In the event of a tie, the Auditing Committee will determine the winner by each dog's placement on the scorecard of the "call" judge. The "call" judge will be the Breeder judge. Of the dogs involved in the tie, the dog placing highest on the "call" judge's card will be declared the winner.
Awards:
1. The results of the event will not be announced immediately after the competition but rather will be kept confidential until the Awards Banquet.
2. At the Awards Banquet, the dog with the highest average score will be declared the winner of the Top Twenty Event.
