Whippet Performance Events

OBEDIENCE CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS

Championship points will be recorded for those dogs which have earned a First, Fourth place ribbon competing in the Open B or Utility B Class according to the established by the Board of Directors of The American Kennel Club. In counting the number of eligible dogs in competition, a dog that is disqualified the ring by the judge will not be included.

Requirements for the Obedience Trial Champion are as follows:

The dog must have won:

100 points;
A first place in Utility B with at least three dogs in competition;
A first place in Open B with at least six dogs in competition;
An additional first place under the conditions of 2 or 3 above;
All three first places under three different judges

One of the required first places may have been won at a Specialty Show.

10 th Annual AWC Triathlon

The AWC Triathlon competition was developed to recognize whippets that excel in three areas of com petition: conformation, lure coursing and obedience or agility. The 10 annual competition is open to all whippets entered in eligible Conformation, Obedience/Agility and Lure Coursing Stakes at the 2004 AWC National Specialty in Greensboro, North Carolina. To acknowledge the dogs that excel in all three areas of competition, there will be 10 placement awards.

2004 AWC NATIONAL TRIATHLON RULES AND SCORING

The total raw scores for all three events will be added together. At the end of the week, the dog with the highest point total will be declared the 2004 Triathlon Champion.

CONFORMATION: The base score for the Conformation portion of the event is determined by the judge's numeric evaluation of the dog in the Triathlon Conformation Class, utilizing the breed standard as a perfect score of 100 points. The judge's score is recorded on the Conformation Score Sheet. The top scoring dogs will be ranked first through fourth place with the judge breaking any ties at that time. The high scoring dog will be High Score in Conformation(HCS).

LURE COURSING: The base score for the Lure Coursing portion of the event is the total final score. (400 maximum).

OBEDIENCE: The base score for the Obedience portion of the event is the highest total points earned in any single-dog entry Obedience Trial Class. NOTE: Non-qualifying scores are utilized in calculating the total score. AGILITY: As an option to obedience, TWO Agility scores (any Jumpers and any Standard class) of 200 total points can be used instead of an Obedience Score. Entries in both Agility and Obedience are acceptable and encouraged. Since, no scores are given for NQs in Agility, it would behoove the owner to enter both. The high score will be used. Only the highest placement will be used for tiebreaker points.

BONUS POINTS: There will be no Bonus Points awarded for placements. The Total of the raw Scores will be used. In the case of a tie, placements will be utilized for tie breaker points. Placements will be given points of 4, 3, 2, and 1 for First through Fourth Place in a four-dog or more class. Only 1 point will be awarded for a one-dog class, 2 points and 1 point for a two-dog class, and 3 points, 2 points, and 1 point for a three-dog class. BIF,HIT and HCS will be utilized as final tiebreakers, used only after all placement tie-breaker points have been awarded.

FIRST PLACE TRIATHLON: 10-inch porcelain commemorative plate.

Second through Tenth Place: 8-inch porcelain commemorative plate

The AKC regulations for Agility trials contains complete details concerning Dogs Eligible to enter, obstacles which will be used, and descriptions of Classes Offered. CLASSES & DIVISIONS

Novice, Open and Excellent Standard Classes will be offered. The Novice and Excellent classes will be divded into Division A & Division B as further described in Chapter 2, Section 1 of the AKC Regulations for Agility Tri als. Novice Standard Agility class and the Novice JWW Classes are divided into Divisions A & B, Division A is for dogs that have never acquired any AKC Agility title.

Novice, Open & Excellent JWW Classes will be offered. The Novice & Excellent Classes will be divided into Division A & Division B as further described in Chaper 5, Section 2 of the AKC Regulations for Agility Trials.'

HEIGHT DIVISIONS

Owners/Agents are responsible for entering the proper height divisions. Judges reserve the right to measure any dog entered in the trials. All height divisions will be offered in both the standard and the jumpers with weaves classes. Dogs may only be entered in one jump height division per day for all classes.

JUMP HEIGHT CARD

All dogs competing in Agility must present a valid official Jump Height Card.

For dogs two years and older, Owners/Handlers must present a permanent height card at check-in or be measured prior to competing.

For dogs under two years of age, the Owner/Handler must present a temporary height card at check-in or be measured prior to competing.

Dogs that do not have a Jump Height Card, will be measured by a Judge of record for that trial and will only be effective for that set of trials, excluding the dogs jumping in the 24-inch height division.

Misrepresentation of a dog, including altering information on a Jump Height Card, is grounds for misconduct. Exhibitors should carry the original valid official Jump Height Card at each trial to present upon request.

In accordance with Chapter 2, Section 3 of the Regulations for Agility Trials, dogs wicketed by the judge of record may not be moved down in jump height.

I am From Baldwin, NY and started in Agility in 1995 with my Pembrok Welsh Corgi, Pistol. The day Pistol finished his CD, he and I walked out of the building where the trial was being held totally bored. We went outside and heard a loud bang. We went to investigate and there was agility demo going on. We watched, signed up for the next class and haven't looked back since.

Pistol went on to obtain his U KC LA-CD, UACH, AKC. AX and returned to the ring this past fall at the tender age of 12+ to qualify in the preferred class. fie was also first. What an accomplishment for this senior gentleman. I ant currently trialing his niece Miracle who hasher PT in herding, her U KC Agl, Agll, ACK MX and MXJ and as 11 Double "Q's and 1108 points towards her Agility MACK

I got into judging with the U KC and then AKC. enjoy watching the different breeds and handling techniques from the different areas around the county. I try to split my time equally between judging and trialing, making for a Full Agility season.
