Top Twenty Event Is dedicated to

Remembering Peggy Newcombe
A Friend
A friend for life
Is of a high tribute that we all hope to achieve
A unique honor that conveys those higher qualities
That through our lifetime we try to weave
Such a friend
Whether you are one or lucky enough to have one
Is always a true, glowing steady beacon
That solid, constant confidante and companion
But, a friend forever
Is that rare blessing at the end of the rainbow
Whose richness transcends all of those boundaries
That we might, and might not know
You are this forever friend
Whose smile and laughter I’ll always embrace
Who will always share with me now and forever
The gift of your friendship, anytime and anyplace
Lare Joseph Austin

AKC Group Licensed Judge

Jacqueline Quiros Kubat
Jacky began showing her first dog at the age of 8 and at the age of 18, while her father was stationed in Japan as Argentine Ambassador she became one of the founders of he Japan SPCA.
Upon her return to the US she started breeding Weimaraners. After finishing several of her homebreds she apprentised under the famous handler Ben Brown later becoming the last woman to obtain an all breed AKC handlers license.
In 1963 Jacky purchased her first Whippet an English Import from the famous Allways Kennel, and started breeding under the Dragonfly prefix. Later she incorporated Greyhounds.
In the early seventies she moved to Argentine to be with her aging parents taking with her her foundation stock of six whippets, a greyhound and started her breeding program all over again with great success, obtaining the title of #1 Whippet for 33 years, top Sighthound and many years within the top Twenty All Breeds. She has over 180 homebred champions to her credit.
Having been an all breed handler in the US, she was asked to give seminars on handling and it wasn’t too long after that, that she was asked to judge and by the end of 1973 she obtained her FCA-FCI all breed license.
Since them Jacky has judged all over the world, North, Central and South America, New Zealand, Australia numerous times (the Melbourne Royal four times), South Africa and Europe. The AKC recongnized her as an FCI allrounder since 1977. She judges frequently in the US and Canada.
Though she has bred Dobermans, Poodles, Afghans, Greyhounds, Salukis, Italian Greyhounds, Schipperkes. Her Dragonfly Kennel is mainly world reknown in Whippets and Weimaraners.
2007 Breeder Judge
Harriett Lee

I have been active in the Sport of Purebred dogs since 1972, beginning in the Obedience ring with Pembroke Welch Corgis. Having been bitten by the “dog showbug”, I spent more than two years researching breeds. I was intrigued with the elegant style of the Whippet and after attending a Coursing meet and seeing them run I knew that I must have one!
In 1979 I purchased my first Whippet puppy and in 1988 this cherished companion, BIS Ch. Whippoorwill Tanzanite, provided the family with the ultimate thrill when he went Best In Show, owner handled at nine and a half years young!
In 1986 I was fortunate to meet David Markus and Rob Lindey at the Midwest Specialty and that meeting began a fast friendship and ultimately a partnership in Whippets. Though we have bred on a limited basis, Winsmith/ Aikerskaill Whippets have been shown successfully here and in Canada and we continue to strive for our ideal Whippet.
I joined the AWC in 1981 and have been Secretary, Futurity Chairman, President and long time Eastern Regional Sow Chairman. This past Fall, I became a Provisional Judge for Whippets.
I am very honored to have the opportunity to judge the Top Twenty !

Handler Judge
Mary Dukes
I has been involved in purebred dogs for over 30 years, initially as a breeder, then as a professional handler and currently as an Executive Field Rep for the American Kennel Club.
As a breeder, I bred Whippets under the “Delacreme” prefix and bred over 50 champions including 5 all breed Best In Show winners and 2 National specialty winners. Also, I was the breeder/owner/handler of the multiple specialty winner Ch. Delacreme de la Renta, ROMX who is one of the top sires in the history of the breed, siring over 115 champions to date.
As a professional handler, I showed primarily the hound breeds but also a smattering of breeds in other groups and have handled various dogs to over 30 Best In Show wins and have won groups with dogs in all 7 groups.
Since August of 2005, I has been employed by the American Kennel Club as an Executive Field Rep covering shows in the southeast, primarily Georgia and the Carolinas.

My passion for dogs began in 1983, when I was
only 12 years old. At this time I began showing
and lure coursing Afghans. While at a lure
coursing I met a whippet puppy and fell in love.
That pup came home with me that day and
sparked my passion for whippets. Sherry was
supported SBIS Ch. Shaman Sherry on Ice,
CGC, LCM. She went on to win Groups, and
place in the Top 10 in both show and lure
coursing.
For my sixteenth birthday, Dr. James R. Gray of Elysian whippets gave me a silly red brindle puppy, named Perry. NSBIS & Multi SBIS Ch. Elysian A-Few Perrier, LCM, CGC, ROMX. Perry became one of the top Specialty winning whippets of his time. Then there is Thelma, 2x NSBIS, 4x SBIS Ch. Whippletrees Icy Affire, FCh, JC, ROM. She broke the record for the top number of regional specialty wins (which has since been broken) and became the first whippet to win back-to back National SBIS, the first being from the classes. From our foundation dogs Cherche’ produced the 1988 Futurity Winner, Ch. Cherche’ Touch Me, FCh., SBIS & National BOS Ch. Innenduo’s Peaches and Cream, Fch and 2x SBIS, NBOS Ch. Cherche’s Wizard of the Wind (the first 2x SBIS winning black whippet), and Southern Specialty Supported winning Ch. Cherche’ The Memory Remains, JC and SBIS Ch. Hycks Hollow Heart an Soul.
I’m currently self-employed working from home with stained glass and creating websites. In October 2006, I married a wonderful man, David Watkins, who enjoys the dogs as much as I and enjoys hanging out with us crazy dog people. I think he’s a keeper!

Breeding & Exhibiting
Owned and bred whippets under the Aikerskaill prefix since 1981.

Joseph Buchanan
Good evening and good luck. I have owned and shown Whippets since 1989. My start in the dog world came easy as I lived very close to several Whippet breeders including Bob Hirschle (Radwyn), Donnie & Debbie Butt (Sporting Fields) and Ellen Morgan (Yorktown).
I traveled with Bob, Ellen, Donnie
and Debbie to many shows and showed many
Whippets under their mentorship. Through
Bob I had the pleasure of meeting Karen
Roberson (Cabria), Karen became my dear
friend and we have owned some beautiful
Whippets together including the beautiful Ch.
Sporting Field Sir Nolan of Raintree who
graced this Top Twenty ring on several
occasions. Along with Whippets I found a love for another breed...the Pharaoh
Hound, which I actively breed under the prefix XO. Though I have had the
pleasure of showing several outstanding Whippets including several that have
participated in the Top Twenty, my experience in dogs is not limited to Whippets.
I have also had the pleasure of showing many fine dogs of other breeds. Recently I have shown several outstanding dogs such as Ch. Mondrian VH Lamslag (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel) to BOB at Westminster, Ch. Expression-Lasting- Impression (Chinese Crested - Powderpuff) to BOB at Westminster, BOB at the National and to the status as the breed’s only Powderpuff to be #1 All-Systems and the top winning puff in AKC history. Most recently I had the opportunity to show a Pharaoh Hound of my breeding (BIS Ch. XO EZ) to BOB and Group 4 at Crufts in England...a breeder’s dream come true. I wish all participants of this year’s Top Twenty the best of luck. I know the effort that goes into bringing a dog to this level and though only one Whippet will be chosen as this year’s Top Twenty winner all of them are already winners.
Official Standard for the Whippet
General Appearance – A medium size sighthound giving the appearance of elegance and fitness, denoting great speed, power and balance without coarseness. A true sporting hound that covers a maximum of distance with a minimum of lost motion. Should convey an impression of beautifully balanced muscular power and strength, combined with great elegance and grace of outline. Symmetry of outline, muscular development and powerful gait are the main considerations; the dog being built for speed and work, all forms of exaggeration should be avoided.
Size, Proportion, Substance – Ideal height for dogs, 19 to 22 inches; for bitches, 18 to 21 inches, measured at the highest point of the withers. More than one-half inch above or below the stated limits will disqualify. Length from forechest to buttocks equal to or slightly greater than height at the withers. Moderate bone throughout.
Head – Keen intelligent alert expression. Eyes large and dark. Both eyes must be of the same color. Yellow or light eyes should be strictly penalized. Blue or wall eyes shall disqualify. Fully pigmented eyelids are desirable. Rose ears, small, fine in texture; in repose, thrown back and folded along neck. Fold should be maintained when at attention. Erect ears should be severely penalized. Skull long and lean, fairly wide between the ears, scarcely perceptible stop. Muzzle should be long and powerful, denoting great strength of bite, without coarseness. Lack of underjaw should be strictly penalized. Nose entirely black. Teeth of upper jaw should fit closely over teeth of lower jaw creating a scissors bite. Teeth should be white and strong. Undershot shall disqualify. Overshot one-quarter inch or more shall disqualify.
Neck, Topline, Body – Neck long, clean and muscular, well arched with no suggestion of throatiness, widening gracefully into the top of the shoulder. A short thick neck, or a ewe neck, should be penalized. The back is broad, firm and well muscled, having length over the loin. The backline runs smoothly from the withers with a graceful natural arch, not too accentuated, beginning over the loin and carrying through over the croup; the arch is continuous without flatness. A dip behind the shoulder blades, wheelback, flat back, or a steep or flat croup should be penalized. Brisket very deep, reaching as nearly as possible to the point of the elbow. Ribs well sprung but with no suggestion of barrel shape. The space between the forelegs is filled in so that there is no appearance of a hollow between them. There is a definite tuckup of the underline. The tail long and tapering, reaching to the hipbone when drawn through between the hind legs. When the dog is in motion, the tail is carried low with only a gentle upward curve; tail should not be carried higher than top of back.
Forequarters – Shoulder blade long, well laid back, with flat muscles, allowing for moderate space between shoulder blades at peak of withers. Upper arm of equal length, placed so that the elbow falls directly under the withers. The points of the elbows should point neither in nor out, but straight back. A steep shoulder, short upper arm, a heavily muscled or loaded shoulder, or a very narrow shoulder, all of which restrict low free movement, should be strictly penalized. Forelegs straight, giving appearance of strength and substance of bone. Pasterns strong, slightly bent and flexible. Bowed legs, tied-in elbows, legs lacking substance, legs set far under the body so as to create an exaggerated forechest, weak or upright pasterns should be strictly penalized. Both front and rear feet must be well formed with hard, thick pads. Feet more hare than cat, but both are acceptable. Flat, splayed or soft feet without thick hard pads should be strictly penalized. Toes should be long, close and well arched. Nails strong and naturally short or of moderate length. Dewclaws may be removed.
Hindquarters — Long and powerful. The thighs are broad and muscular, stifles well bent; muscles are long and flat and carry well down toward the hock. The hocks are well let down and close to the ground. Sickle or cow hocks should be strictly penalized.
Coat – Short, close, smooth and firm in texture. Any other coat shall be a disqualification. Old scars and injuries, the result of work or accident, should not be allowed to prejudice the dog’s chance in the show ring.
Color – color immaterial.
Gait – Low, free moving and smooth, with reach in the forequarters and strong drive in the hind quarters. The dog has great freedom of action when viewed from the side; the forelegs move forward close to the ground to give a long, low reach; the hind legs have strong propelling power. When moving and viewed from front or rear, legs should turn neither in nor out, nor should feet cross or interfere with each other. Lack of front reach or rear drive, or a short, hackney gait with high wrist action, should be strictly penalized. Crossing in front or moving too close should be strictly penalized.
Temperament – Amiable, friendly, gentle, but capable of great intensity during sporting pursuits.
DISQUALIFICATIONS
More than one-half inch above or below stated height limits; blue or wall eyes; undershot, overshot one-quarter inch or more. Any coat other than short, close, smooth and firm in texture.

Top Twenty Event
Official Rules and Regulations
Purpose:
The Top Twenty Event has been initiated to encourage the exhibition of Whippets in the breed competition. Each event will be part of the AWC National Specialty and will serve a variety of purposes in educating judges, exhibitors, breeders and fanciers and will offer all an opportunity to view the Cream of the Crop competing together in one ring. The competition will also promote discussions of the standard which encourages the exchange of ideas and will provide a showcase for those Whippets with the most outstanding records in breed competition.
Eligibility:
Judges:
1. Three judges with no affiliation to any of the Top Twenty participants will be selected, one from each of the following categories:
B. AKC – Licensed Hound Group Judge – A licensed judge approved to judge the entire hound group.
C. Handler (past or present) – A professional handler meeting the requirements for membership in a Professional Handler’s organization (though not necessarily a member). Must have at least five year’s experience with Whippets.
2. The names of those selected to judge will be kept confidential until the day of the event.
Scoring:
1. Each judge will individually evaluate each participating Whippet. Each judge receives an official score sheet for each participant. On the official score sheet, each judge will place the participant on conformation to the standard, movement, and overall presentation. These placements are turned into their respective ring steward at the end of each participant evaluation. The ring stewards turn the score sheets over to the Top Twenty chairperson.
2. On the day of the Awards Banquet, the Auditing Committee, consisting of the Top Twenty chairperson and stewards, will tabulate and total the scores for each dog. The Top 5 choices from each judge will be placed in order, 1 st through 5 th, on official scorecards. Scoring will be as follows: 1 st place = 100 points; 2 nd place = 80 points; 3 rd place = 70 points; 4 th place = 60 points; and 5 th place = 50 points.
A. The scores for each dog from each of the three judges will be added together and divided by three to determine each dog’s average score.
B. In the event of a tie, the Auditing Committee will determine the winner by each dog’s placement on the scorecard of the “call” judge. The “call” judge will be the Breeder judge. Of the dogs involved in the tie, the dog placing highest on the “call” judge’s card will be declared the winner.
Awards:
1. The results of the event will not be announced immediately after the competition but rather will be kept confidential until the Awards Banquet.
2. At the Awards Banquet, the dog with the highest average score will be declared the winner of the Top Twenty Event.

Top Twenty Event Winner
MBIS Ch. Karasar’s Essence

"Elle"

Ch. Andauer Am I Gonna Be A Star
Sex: Dog
Call Name: “Dominick”
Color: Brindle & White
DOB: July 13, 2003
Height: 21”
Most Memorable Win: Dominick’s Nationa wins: Selects in 2005 &
2006 and winning his puppy Class in 2004
When I saw Dominick at 10 weeks of age I knew he was a special dog - he was pretty and well marked enough but his front assembly was extraordinary. Only a breeder would get excited over structure! As he grew-up he only got better and developed into a wonderful dog to both show and live with. It’s always nice to have your opinion of a dog verified which it was when he won the huge Puppy Dog 6-9 month class at the North Carolina National under Espen Engh. He finished taking Best of Winners and Best Bred-By Exhibitor at the AWC South Central Specialty under breeder-judge Stacey Davis. At the Arizona National Mrs. Clark awarded Dominick 1st Select Dog. And at the Boston National he placed second in a very large and competitive Stud Dog class under Magnus Hagstedt and he was awarded another Select being described as a “model for the Breed” by Bo Bengtson. He also won Selects at the 2005 AWC Midwest and South Central Specialties.
But it is as a sire that Dominick’s true potential is being realized. He is
consistently siring very pretty, well constructed puppies with huge
sidegait. While he is a fun dog to show his calling is a stud dog so we
will let his puppies represent him and he will only make future
appearances at selected specialties. Our thanks to those judges who have
recognized him and to those breeders who have selected him for their
bitches.

Sex: Bitch
Call Name: “Tori”
Color: Brindle & White
DOB: December 25, 2003
Height: 20¾”
Most Memorable Win: All of them!
From the minute I saw Tori’s sweet little face on Doug Allen’s “Ari Whippets” website on his recent litter of puppies I knew I had to have her. As it turned out myself, Kathy Thomas of Watch Me Whippets and Doug Allen of Ari Whippets became co-owners of Tori.
Between Kathy and myself with very limited showing in tough CA. competition she finished with impressive wins based on her soundness, side gait and beauty.
Looking back, her highights include: Winning the Open bitch class at the AWC National in AZ. with an entry of 45. Gp.1 Sweepstakes at the Western Hound Assn. BOW at the Northern CA. Whippet Fanciers Assn. Speciality. BOB from the class from a large entry at the Hound Classic week-end.
Her first time as aspecial handled by Kathy Thomas she received the 1st Select
at the AWC Western Sighthound Combined, the following day BOB, and the 3rd
day BOB with a Gp. 2.
She was then shown by Pam Lambie winning more BOB’s with a Gp.1 and Gp. 2 the same week-end.
She ended the year getting an Award of Excellence at the AKC Eukanuba Challenge.
She gave us more than we ever dreamed of, and being in the Top Twenty is such an honor that we will never forget. Thank you to all of the judges that got us here.
Congratulations to all that are here tonight.

Call Name: “Qwen”
Color: Brindle & White
DOB: July 3, 2004
Height: 20¾”
Most Memorable Win: Winning the Hound Group at the Rose Classic.
Qwen was born in Canada. Her breeders were Kim Pritchard, Terry Taft, and Marlene Slowinsky. She is a really fun bitch to be around. Kim named her after Qwen Stefani because she is definitely a show girl. She has always loved the show ring. When she gets in the ring you can just see her enthusiasm. Her show career started in Canada with Kim, Terry and Marlene. Andy Linton who is my handler also fell in love with her when he saw her at the National.
She was a very mature looking puppy. Andy finished her quickly. Since
then she has gone on to win many best of breeds, hound groups and she
also she has two best in shows.
She is a once in a life time bitch to me

Sex: Dog
Call Name: “Peri” Color: White &
Brindle
DOB: December 24, 2003
Height: 21½”
Most Memorable Win:The Western Washington Whippet Association’s Specialty.
Peri was precious to us from the moment we saw him. From his birth on Christmas Eve, we knew that Peri was going to be special. He reminded us of our beautiful Spice, his grandmother. He has followed in his grandmother’s footsteps. Grandmother Spice, (SBIS Ch. LamBay’s Spice’N Castlecrest) won the AWC Top Twenty in 1995. Spice’s son Dreamer, (Ch. Castlecrest’s In Your Dreams) and Peri’s dad was a Top Twenty whippet several years ago. Now Peri has been in the Top Twenty for the past two years. We, at Castlecrest, feel blessed with the off-spring that Spice has given to us. Peri’s first litter has shown promise, too. Over half of the puppies from his first litter are pointed and close to finishing their championships. The one special thing the we love about Peri is his wonderful personality. This fun loving clown, talkative, and sassy guy is the delight of our house.

Sex: Bitch
Call Name: “Zoey”
Color: Fawn & White
DOB: November 18, 2001
Height: 20¾”
Most Memorable Win: Each and every win was a special one, but winning the Breed & Group 4 at the 2006 Westminster Kennel Club is one I will treasure forever.
Well, what can I say about Zoey, she truly is a breeders dream come true. A beautiful Whippet, with correct conformation, correct sidegait (not over-exaggerated), a winning attitude and a stunning head-piece with naturally gorgeous black eyes that just melt you, Zoey has it all.
But due to some unfortunate circumstances, Zoey had to retire from
her show career earlier than we had planned. She leaves her impressive mark
of 19
All-Breed Best In Shows (18 US - 1 Canada), making her the #1 Best In Show
winning Whippet bitch, since the 1920’s.
Although only campaigned for 4 months (Jan. to April) in 2006, she still amassed enough points in All-Breed competition to be the #2 Whippet!!! Quite an major accomplishment.
Thank you to all of Zoey’s supporters and ringside fans, you know who you are. It’s always a pleasure to watch a Whippet that LOVES to show, and being the center of attention. That certainly was Zoey. I will miss seeing her shining attitude and silly antics in the ring, but she is lovin’ life chasin’ cats on the farm.
Thanks Dan, Bruno, Debbie and Amanda, it was a fantastic ride, one I will remember and treasure forever.
Congratulations and Best of Luck to ALL the Top Twenty qualifiers.

Color: Fawn & White
DOB: January 19, 2004
Height: 20½”
Most Memorable Win: All three Best In Shows! Best In Specialty - Greater Chicago Whippet Club from the BBE class!
Cheer’s exuberance for the ring started at her very first show where despite not being able to keep a foot planted for more then a second she still went RWB to a 5 pt major. I decided that it was best to let her mature so that I could channel her enthusiasm appropriately.
The decision was a good one! I experienced the thrill of a lifetime when
I decided to bring Cheers out to start her career in earnest. In April of
2005 she won back-to-back Best In Shows from the BBE class to earn
both her majors! Her next appearance in the ring during the Eastern
Regional specialty weekend earned Cheers her third major to finish. A
wild ride indeed!
To date Cheers has been awarded a total of three all breed best in shows, one specialty best in show, three AWC supported entry BOB wins, nine group firsts and over twenty other group placements. Cheers was also a Top Twenty whippet in 2005. She ended 2006 #8 breed and #7 all breed. All her wins were breeder/ owner-handled.
Congratulations and good luck

Call Name: “Nate”
Color: Fawn & White
DOB: December 14, 2002
Height: 21 ¾”
Most Memorable Win: A Group I under Robert Moore. It was our first group placement and such a thrill.
A stud fee puppy from my first whippet Tut, Nate was a star from the beginning, finishing in the breed ring at 11 months with three majors and multiple BOS over specials - always owner handled. As intense, agile courser, he completed his AKC Field Championship in 8 trials including a BIF before his 2nd birthday. His ASFA Field championship followed soon after. Achieving Dual Championship status qualified his dam, Katie, for her ROM.
Nate’s first group placement (and mine) was a Group 1. He is a multiple group placer, and specialty AOM winner. A balanced mover, tremendous showman who loves children, puppies and food, Nate is my first special. Many thanks to his breeders Kerrie and Mary for their knowledge and support.

Ch. Lexie Written On The Wind
Sex: Bitch
Call Name: “Lauren”
Color: Brindle & White
DOB: August 18, 2004
Height: 19 ¾”
Most Memorable Win: All of Them!
To start, Lauren would not be here if it were not for Deborah Bahm. She informed me that she wanted this breeding, and coowning the mother, I agreed. Lauren is a prodigy of Debmar, carrying the Lexie name, that is sheer luck. I could not be happier with the result, but it is because of Deborah that she exist. When we went to see the litter, to pick our prospect, Terry had his sights on “the girl” (Lauren).... it is because of Terry and Deborah that I am graced with a lovely bitch named Lauren.
Lauren started her show career at the tender age of 6 months of age going WB/BOW for her first points (with many handlers oowing and awwing) she was a force to be reckoned with...
Her specials career was to start in January of 06. At a friend’s house- with owner in tow... Lauren started to limp... and limp.... and limp.... she had an infected toenail... it took nursing and love (for months)
In April of 2006, Lauren went to live with (handler) Tonya MacRae, a tough start... 8 Groups Ones and a top 10 spot.... Lauren would like to thank ALL the people supporting her... See Y’all in 2008.

Sex: Bitch
Call Name: “Madonna”
Color: Fawn & White
DOB: June 8, 2002
Height: 19 ¾”
Most Memorable Win:
Madonna was special from the beginning! Finishing her championship quickly, she was then guided in her specials career by Co-Owner / handler, Carol Schurman of Dublin Whippet fame. Madonna’s accomplishments have kept her ranked as a Top Twenty Whippet for three consecutive years, 2004, 2005 and 2006, an honor few Whippets have attained.
Madonna, a daughter of Jordan and our foundation bitch Sara, also a Top 10 Whippet, is a sister to another former Top Twenty Whippet, Ch. Meisterhaus Guardian Angel.
Each of Madonna’s wins was exciting. While she has made her mark in the show ring and has proven herself as a valued companion, we now look to the future as maternity leave is planned for 2007. We believe that her offspring will make us proud for years to come.
Throughout her three years as a Top Twenty contender, Madonna, with Carol at the helm, has been a joy to watch and has given us many proud moments.

2006 was another grand year. I’m appreciative of the judges whose approval again earned me a very respectable spot in the Top Twenty. I am particularly grateful to my #1 handler, Lori Wilson, whose gentle hand piloted me to the majority of my wins.
If I am not with you tonight it’s because my human hasn’t found a baby sitter for her pesky puppies. Her husband Steve declined the job this year.

Call Name: “Simon”
Color: Fawn & White
DOB: May 23, 1998
Height: 22”
Most Memorable Win: While his all-breed Best In Show was certainly the biggest, winning his puppy class at the 1999 National under Betty Stites was by far the most memorable.
We are so incredibly honored to be here!
To be in the company of such remarkable dogs is most certainly a dream come true.
Simon is one of the oldest qualifiers in Top Twenty history. With a show career that has spanned almost 9 years, there have been many treasured moments. Some of the most memorable have been finishing his championship at the Western Specialty under Mrs. Annie Clark; specialty Best in Show as a puppy the day after the Canadian Whippet National: Best of Breed and multiple Selects at numerous big California hound weekends... the list goes on and on.
Simon has brought tremendous joy into my life. He is a gentleman and a
clown. The ultimate opportunist, his enthusiasm and exuberance shines
through in absolutely everything he does - Simon loves life!
Congratulations to all the Top Twenty dogs, may this be an evening to remember for a lifetime.
With much love and sincere thanks to Simon’s many friends who have supported us in this amazing journey.

Sex: Dog
Call Name: “Handy”
Color: Black
DOB: November 26, 2004
Height: 21 ¾”
Named after the classic jazz legend, our precocious puppy WC Handy had a pretty high opinion of himself from the day he was born. It wasn’t long before we agreed with him. I remember Cora asking me, “but can you Special a solid black dog?” My reply was, “let’s think about finishing him first!” Cora was far more prescient than I.
“Handy” finished in 3 weekends, at 7 ½ months old, with 3 BOBs over Specials, a Supported entry major, an AWC Specialty 5 pt. Major, and a Hound Group First!!!
At 11 months old he was BOB at the Greater Chicago Whippet Club Specialty, and at 16 ½ months old, BOS at the 2006 AWC National!!!! After that, his Specials career began in earnest and he finished 2006 as the # 1 Male Whippet in the US all systems, and becoming (to the best of our knowledge) the first all-breed BIS winning black in US history. His wins were under all-rounders, Hound specialists, and breeder judges alike. We are grateful to the breeders, exhibitors, and handlers who have embraced“Handy”, and his confident and goofy personality and his devilish sense of humor. THANKS!!!!
Racing and coursing are next on his agenda. “Handy” earned his JC in his 1st two Trials in the pouring rain, and in ankle deep mud. We hope that he can continue the legacy of his pedigree and the efforts of his breeders to produce the total Whippet, combining type, soundness, temperament, and athleticism.
Congratulations and best of luck to all!!!!

Height: 21 ¾”
Most Memorable Win: Owner handled Group 1 at 14 months of age.
“Folly”, Ch. Winfield I’d Rather Be Right, started his bench title with a bang! He won his first points at 6 months and a few days old and finished just before his 11-month birthday. Along the way he garnered 4 majors, a couple Group placements, some sweepstakes wins and a Best Puppy/Group 1 at the Cascade Hound Association Show. As the breeder/owner/handler, it was a fun trip to his title.
With limited, local showing as a “special”, Folly is a Group winner, Best of Breed winner at supported entries and the local Hound Show, and Best Opposite Sex at the Western Washington Whippet Association Show. Ginger and I are proud and grateful for the recognition this young dog has received. What makes Folly special to us is his wonderful temperament in and out of the ring, his stallionlike presence and his balanced, effortless movement.
