Josh with his sister, their sire, and Heidi, the "wannabe whippet"

"Josh" was Snapper's son and Patches' litterbrother. He certainly lived up to his pedigree in the show ring. With Whirlaway and Chalmondoley as grandsires, he couldn't lose. He was my first time in BBE class and I was so thrilled to be there. At that time, the mid 70's, no one entered anything but Open it seemed. And almost every time, Josh was in BBE alone. A number of well meaning people told me you had to be in Open to win. Of course they also told me to put him in a pet home. Josh was a dilute, solid fawn brindle with a rather clunky head. He was so laid back that he was half asleep in the ring it seemed. A big looking dog tho he only measured 21 1/2, a wicket was called on him twice and judges were amazed at the result. I was too novice, and too proud to be in BBE, to heed all the advice about him. Good thing too...Josh was in a total of NINE shows where he took three 4pt majors and a 5pt major. He followed in his sire's pawprints to finish, not only with a 5pt major but with a BOB from the classes. All the judges seemed to agree, telling me when he moved he was a dog you had to look at, as he floated around a ring with great reach and drive, and was dead sound coming and going. Tragically I lost him at age 7. But the memories will live forever.

Josh and his sire, Snapper, and the little white "whippet wannabe," Heidi.
