Junior Profile

T HERE is always something special about a boy and his dog, but there is something al most magic about Clare Hodge and "Charlie." They are a team—a winning team. The great skill of this junior handler results in a perfect response from his dog and the total effect is worth seeing. This junior with a Whippet in one of the finest handlers in JS today.

Sixteen-year-old Clare Hodge, son of Dr. and Mrs. Clare C. Hodge of Bryn Mawr, Pa., became interested in handling after attending shows with his parents (owners, breeders, ex hibitors of Whippets). He has been active at match and point shows for two years handling his favorite breed in the regular classes. Clare began competing in JS a year and a half ago under the expert guidance of Franklin T. Hill, a past-Westminster winner. During this short time he amassed an enviable record of JS wins including firsts at Delaware Co., Valley Forge, Newton, Burlington Co. and Salisbury, Md. (2 yrs in a row).

Clare is a sophomore at Harrington High School where he is a member of the chess club, baseball team and the varsity soccer team. He is an able pianist, having studied for seven years. Clare also enjoys collecting stamps. He plans to go on to college and pursue a career in medicine. Also in his future are plans for a kennel and, of course, more shows, and handling.
