Today's calendar features Molly Rule-Steele and Taejaan Whippets from Australia. My first Whippet was a gift from Brian and Sandy Wilson of Noholme fame in 1979. Her name was Tawny or NZ Aust Ch Noholme Dawn Aptly She was in fact my sons pet as he wasn't that impressed with the Afghans and wanted a pet of his own. She ended up being my bed warmer and our much loved house pet. As I was still breeding and exhibiting Afghan Hounds it wasn't until when I acquired Ch Noholme Pepper Mill and his half sibling Ch Noholme Blue Lagoon that my first litter was bred. That was in 1990.

As Tawny adopted me as her person I really developed a passion for this breed. I loved the feel of the Whippet their elegance and sheer beauty. Their loyalty and responsive natures were also another plus. They are also wonderful with children and keep the kids occupied playing ball or any athletic activity required of them. As they are a wash and wear breed this was also an attraction after all the hours grooming the Afghans. Brian Wilson of Noholme Whippets has always been and will remain my mentor.

On the subject of best memories with the whippet breed, Ch Noholme Pepper Mill is forever in my thoughts. He died from cancer when only nine years old. He was a treasure in every sense of the word. "Cricket" ruled our household in the sweetest way imaginable. Not only was he the foundation of Taejaan he was my best friend. My favorite dog show memories would have to be winning Best In Show at Sydney Royal in 1997 with a Cricket grandaughter Ch Taejaan Ms Margarita and her sire Ch Taejaan Read My Lips going Best In Show Adelaide Royal 1999. The royal Shows in this country are highly regarded and are our continents most prestigious shows.

Bottom "Flair" Ch. Taejaan Make Mine Mink.

I would hope that all breeders strive to retain the true purpose of this breed. A small to medium sized althlete which is curvy and without exaggeration. Whippets are born to chase and run. So therefore should not soley be lounge lizards. My wish would be that the standard of the Whippet become a universal one. Judging is my next ambition. I am licenced for Afghan Hounds and Whippets.
